Donald Trump Holds Meeting With New York Times After Calling Them "Failing"; Changes Mind And Says Paper A "Great American Jewel"

Donald Trump called the New York Times as "failing"  in the morning and canceled his meeting with them. Then met them later.

Despite having a disagreement with the rules, the president-elect Republican was calmer than expected in his sit-down interiew with editors and reporters.

He then called the New York Times as a "great, great" American jewel in their boardroom meeting surprising everybody present in the event.

President-elect Trump has mentioned that he hopes that they can all get along. Sitting next to New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. on their 75-minute meeting, Trump even joked with some of the premier names on the Times.

New York Times labeled Trump's behavior on the meeting as a change of heart on his chameleon-like attitude to the media. The behavior was way different from the tweet he posted at 3:16 AM ET last Tuesday on which he tweeted that the "failing" NYT's terms and conditions of the meeting were changed at the last moment.

After calling them "dishonest" and slamming the media, Trump kind of changed his stand on libel laws during the meeting with New York Times. He told staffers that he is seeking to improve his relationship with the largest paper in US.

He added that it would be a great achievement if he could come back in  New York Times office a year or two, or have a lot of friends there.

The reality show host turned politician's relationship with the Times has been shaky since he announced his intentions to run for president last 2015. The paper was aggressively critical of Trump, but after the upset victory, New York Times promised to cover his administration with fairness sans fear.

During the presidential campaign,  New York Times called out Trump's fabrications, investigated his real estate deals with aggression. He paper even leaked his partial tax return in which Trump threatened a lawsuit at one point.
