Mariah Carey Threatens James Packer With $50M Lawsuit, Saying He's 'Lying Opportunist'
Mariah Carey retorted against ex-fiancée James Packer, saying the media mogul is a "lying opportunist" who only "used her for fame," an entertainment magazine reported. A negotiation settlement between the two former lovers is reportedly severed. This means that the 46-year-old multi-talented Carey will not getting any from the $50M-suit against Packer.
According to TMZ, Mariah Carey allegedly threatened her ex-fiancée a $50M-lawsuit, citing the 49-year-old Australian is using Carey's fame in his business dealings, tagging Carey along in his meetings. The $50M amount of money is reportedly demanded by Mariah Carey for the "emotional distress" caused perhaps by their broken engagement.
The supposed "emotional distress" is a result of the change in lifestyle ever since Carey entered into romance with Packer. She reportedly changed her residence to Los Angeles from New York in order to be with Packer. Carey also claimed she was compelled to cancel her tour in South America, resulting in millions of losses in earnings. However, on this point, James Packer refuted saying the reason for the cancellation of the South American tour was not because of him, but rather because of low sale of tickets.
Carey's comment regarding former fiancée came after a few weeks of silence after news came out about their engagement cancellation. During the times that Carey was silent, friends of Carey spoke in her defense. The singer-actress was accused of having an illicit affair with one of her backup dancers, but such allegation was clarified by her close friends. Her manner of spending was also heavily criticized in the sense that her spending habits played a major part in Packer's decision of calling their engagement off.
It was earlier reported that one of James Packer's exes, Kate Fischer, advised Carey on how to win back the businessman, saying Carey should play Packer's game.
