Nick Gordon to Pay $36M in Wrongful Death Lawsuit for Bobbi Kristina Brown
Nick Gordon proved that one cannot ignore lawsuit for too long. The Fulton County judge ordered him to pay Bobbi Kristina Brown's family with $36 million for a wrongful death suit, through what the judge referred as "admission through omission".
It should be remembered that Gordon was deemed to be legally responsible for the death of her girlfriend after he failed to show up in court. Bobbi Kristina Brown, who is the daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston, was found unresponsive at their home last January 2015. She died six months after.
Brown failed to regain consciousness; hence she wasn't given the chance to explain what really happened to her. Strangely, Brown's death is highly similar to how her mother who died three years earlier.
The family of Brown seems happy and relieved of the result, her father Bobby Brown said that he is very pleased. And added, "I do know that Mr. Gordon will be unable to slander my daughter's name in the future or obtain any benefits from the use of Krissy's name."
Judge T. Jackson Bedford of the Fulton County Superior Court said that since Gordon failed to appear twice at the hearing, whatever's alleged by the plaintiff was admitted through omission.
Basing on the testimonials of Bobby Brown and some friends of Bobbi Kristina, the court assessed the losses and damages to determine the value of the life of Bobbi Kristina. The judge admits, "To determine the value of a life is pretty difficult. So the court has been back there primarily struggling with that particular issue." The judge later awarded more than $36 million.
Nick Gordon wasn't present to hear the court's decision. However, his criminal defense attorneys issued a statement last August 2015 saying that all the allegations against Gordon were baseless and called it a "fictitious assault."
