'Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets' Spoilers: First Look on Luc Besson's Sci-Fi Movie
From the director of "The Fifth Element" (1997), Luc Besson, comes the first teaser trailer of the upcoming sci-fi movie 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets'. The movie is an adaptation of Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières' long-running French science fiction comic series, Valérian and Laureline way back on 1967.
Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are adventurers from the future Earth whose mission is to investigate and protect the intergalactic city of Alpha, which has thousands of species that is being threatened with destruction. Along with the cast are Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, Herbie Hancock and Kris Wu.
In addition, singer Rihanna is also one of the first pick to portray the hair-changing, costume-swapping mysterious character from the trailer. "Rihanna was my first wish. First, because of her voice and the way she smiles and looks and how she expresses herself. Second, because you know she won't be intimidated on the set", Luc Besson told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. "She plays stadiums with 100,000 people. You know that girl isn't shy about the camera and the crew and all this", he added.
After all, expect a more advance work from ILM and Weta as its story revolves around a universe without boundaries. ILM brought us explicit effects from films like the Star Wars series and Marvel Cinematic Universe. There we see distinct-looking aliens and planets, more aliens fighting, undeniably advanced starships, all of which makes this teaser trailer visually amazing. Their debut trailer has a close Guardians of the Galaxy setting as Besson is very particular in making high-concept science fiction film much more like "The Fifth Element".
Moreover, the Beatles 1969 classic hit song, 'Because' was used, making it the first time that the famous band has authorized their song for a trailer.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will soon hit the theaters this July 21, 2017.
