New 'X-Men' Movie a Reboot? Cast Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy Possibly Not Returning
Bryan Singer's departure appears to entail that the new X-Men movie is a reboot.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bryan Singer will not return to direct any more "X-Men" films. Producer and writer Simon Kinberg is apparently working on a script to "reconfigure" the series.
This will be the third time the "X-Men" characters will be revamped for a film franchise if the new script will entirely be another reboot. Bryan Singer will not be returning to direct another "X-Men" movie, despite the rumor we had heard that the next sequel would shoot in 2017 with him behind the camera, according to Slash Film.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" closed the second trilogy of films with an underwhelming performance both critically and at the box office, grossing only $544 million in comparison - itself two thirds of the box office of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," according to Independent.
Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy have reached the end of their contracts which gives the possibility of new casted actors. However, if they are not taking on other cast members such as Sophie Turner and the newly-introduced mutants, then they are running out of main X-Men characters to introduce.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next "Deadpool" film will be about the X-Force. This is a clandestine, black-ops unit within the X-Men. They are in charge of covert operations, including assassinations, directed on mutant threats.
The first Deadpool was a true blockbuster hit, but director Tim Miller pulled out of the sequel recently over creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds. Now there's talk that Deadpool 3 might actually replace the "X-Force" movie that's been in development for years, accorfing to Nerdist.
No news or confirmations yet whether or not Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy will make future appearances in the film. The new X-Men related movie, "Deadpool 2", will hit cinemas approximately March 2018.
