‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 10 Air Date, News & Update: Christopher Lloyd Set to Guest-Star in Mystery Role
Doc Brown is coming to "The Big Bang Theory" and he is about to meet Dr. Sheldon Cooper.
It was announced on Wednesday that CBS' "The Big Bang Theory" has appointed "Back to the Future" funnyman Christopher Lloyd to guest-star in the Thursday, Dec. 1, episode. The 78-year-old actor is best known for playing the eccentric time-traveling inventor, Dr. Emmett Brown, in the Robert Zemeckis trilogy, as reported by Daily Mail.
The casting news came two days after Variety revealed CBS is developing a spin-off prequel starring a young Sheldon Cooper with Jim Parsons executive-producing. The 43-year-old Golden Globe winner already receives an eye-popping $1M per episode alongside castmates Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco.
In deciding the casting, the series' executive producers said that they were "so excited" to be working with the veteran actor, whose small-screen credits include appearances on everything from "Cheers to Chuck", of course his 1978-83 stint as"Taxi's" Reverend Jim Ignatowski, and an upcoming visit to Syfy's "12 Monkeys".
In the previous episodes, Sheldon has always been vocal about wanting to travel to the future. Some fans think that the character could be Sheldon's counterpart when he's much older. Others believe that he could be Sheldon's grandfather in a dream sequence. As of late, Sheldon's mom has already been introduced in the show, while his dad passed away years ago.
According to International Business Times, some speculated for executive producer Steve Molaro said that Howard and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) having a baby soon can pave the way for the former to reunite with his dad. "Howard's dad is certainly floating out there somewhere. I will tell you that we've been starting to think about other people we haven't met, like Leonard's dad and who that might be," he said at that time. Leonard's dad has already been introduced so Howard's dad, Sam, could certainly be next.
"The Big Bang Theory" Season 10 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
