Nintendo Wii U Production Ends
Earlier this month, Nintendo announced that they won't stop their production of the Wii U console after a rumor broke out that they'll be stopping it. Unfortunately, it seems that Nintendo has finally thrown the towel and announced that they'd stop their production of the Wii U console... in Japan.
On the Nintendo Japanese site, they announced that they'll stop producing more units of the Wii U soon. No further details were announced as to when is the actual end of production except that it will end soon. The company stated that its 32GB Premium Set. The Premium Set is usually a "bundle" type of console where a game is partnered up with a 32GB Wii U console. The earlier versions of the Wii U have ceased production since 2015, where Nintendo stopped producing 8GB Wii U consoles.
Nintendo has a history of denying discontinuation rumors for their hardware with later confirming it to be true. Last week, the company denied the rumors circulating the internet about how the Wii U production will end on November 4 to make way for their new console, Nintendo Switch. They said that production would continue as planned and there won't be any changes. It looks like Nintendo took back what they said and continued with stopping Wii U.
According to Nintendo America's statement, they said that "We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners. We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.."
Earlier this year, Nintendo announced the release of their new console, Nintendo Switch. Also known as the NX, it is a tablet that composes of two detachable controllers. Nintendo Switch is scheduled for release in March 2017.
