'Will & Grace' Air Date, News & Update: Revival in the Works at NBC
The cast and creators of Will & Grace, who reunited to film an election-themed special in support of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton last month, are rumored to have considered reuniting for real the show following the success of the viral video.
The special was directed by James Burrows, who helmed every episode of the original series during its eight-season run, and has garnered over 6 million views to date. Deadline reports that there are ongoing discussions regarding a new season of Will & Grace, which would bring back stars Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes, along with creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick.
Sources say that Mutchnick, who come up behind September's politically-themed revival, was the one that also kick-started conversations about reviving the series at NBC. He also organized for the show's sets to be transported from Emerson College in Boston, where they've been stored since the show went off-air, and reassembled at the series' original studio, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
NBC was not involved in the production of the election-themed special , but undoubtedly paid attention to the rapturous fan reaction it drawn out. Mashable has confirmed that preliminary talks between NBC and the main players are underway. However, sources emphasize that the revival is still in very early stages yet, with no deals with the cast or producers in place, no episode number or potential airdate confirmed and no guarantee that the project will ever come to fulfillment.
According to reports, the tentative plan is to mount a 10-episode, one-off season, either on NBC or possibly a streaming service. Netflix has become the go-to for TV revivals, having staged successful reunions for "Arrested Development," "Full House," "Wet Hot American Summer" and the upcoming "Gilmore Girls" limited series.
NBC had not confirmed regarding the reported revival talks.
