'Kimi no Na wa': 'Your Name Anime' Film To Air In Singapore & US, Surpases Avatar In Gross Earnings
"Your Name" (Kimi no Na wa) is one of the most hit anime films which has a unique plot that hooked viewers. Because of that, it will also be aired in Singapore and it also surpassed the earnings of "Avatar" and other blockbuster movies.
Purple Plan, a Southeast Asian distributor recently confirmed that that they will air the anime on Nov. 3. "Your Name" (Kimi no Na wa) will have regular daily screenings and will stream it with both English and Chinese subtitle, Anime News Network reported.
Aside from Singapore, it will also open in 85 countries and regions. Back on July 3, a world premiere for the anime was held during the Anime Expo in Los Angeles. The film was screened in the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea on Oc. 9. It is also set to be released in the US before the end of 2016, Mobile & Apps reported.
The outlet further reported that the anime film has surpassed the earnings of "Ponyo" and "Avatar" by earning 16.41 billion yen ($158 million) as of Oct. 24 at the Japanese box office. This is being compared to the earning of Hayao Miyazaki's "Ponyo" anime film which earned 15.5 billion yen and to James Cameron's "Avatar" film which earned 15.6 billion yen.
With that, "Your Name" (Kimi no Na wa) is considered as the fourth highest-grossing anime film in Japan. It is also the fifth highest-grossing Japanese film in the country as well as the ninth highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.
The film is a story of miracles and love which focuses on Mitsuha and Taki. Mitsuha is a female high school student who resides in the rural town. She yearns to experience living in the city of Tokyo. Meanwhile, Taki is a male high school student who lives in central Tokyo and works part-time at an Italian restaurant.
The twist of the story started when Mitsuha had a dream that she was a young man. At the same time, Taki also had a dream that he is a female high school student who lives in a mountain. Their dreams will lead them into something that will make the story more exciting.
Masashi Ando who is known for "Spirited Away,"When Marnie Was There," and "Paprika" is the animation director while Masayoshi Tanaka designed the characters for "Your Name" (Kimi no Na wa).
