Norway's Prime Minister Plays Pokémon Go During Parliament Meeting
It seems that the love for the digital monsters known as Pokemon in the hit game Pokemon Go extends to even the highest reaches of office. Erna Solberg, the Prime Minister of Norway, was the offender this time when she was caught to be playing Pokemon Go during the debate in Storting, Norway's Parliament building, this Tuesday.
It comes as no surprise that Norway's PM is a fan of the game Pokémon Go, being an avid gamer herself. According to the Local in Slovakia, during an official visit, the 55-year-old conservative spared some time to catch up on the game, informing TV2 reporters afterwards that she wanted to hatch a couple of her poke-eggs and get the rare monsters, requiring some players to walk as many as 10 kilometers.
In addition, she is not the first member of the government caught immersed by the game in the parliament chamber. According to the Guardian, Trine Skei Grande, the head of Norway's Liberal Party, was observed playing Pokemon Go on her phone last August whilst in a meeting about national security, at the peak of Poké-mania. And incidentally, who was speaking whilst the prime minister attempted to catch 'em all? Why, Grande herself, who appeared to be amused, saying in a tweet: "She heard what I said, we ladies can do two things at the same time you know."
Norway's TV2 reported that Solberg appeared to be amused by these events, replying: "I think that Trine will like that I opened the game while she was at the pulpit." She was prompted to inquire about the game, "the day after I gave two interviews where I said I didn't play it," she told daily Aftenposten last week. Even more so, she revealed she had been challenged to play by her younger sister who found a pokemon on her veranda. The rest, as they say, was history.
