Luke Cage: Hype Surrounds New Trailer for New Netflix Show

With the Luke Cage trailer up and about, we all know Harlem's going to be in it for a ride, what with the latest trailer's showcasing of the villain Cottonmouth, Cornell Stokes.

The story picks up from where Luke Cage left as Hell's Kitchen's bartender, then goes into Harlem to keep his head down. However, we already all know that won't happen - won't be much of a story if it did, right? - because the villain is already on the move and won't stand for someone like him.

For a quick who's who, Time's article shows us a good FAQ of our new Netflix hero.

As a wrongfully convicted test subject, Luke gains his powers through experimentation. Being innocent as he is, however, leaves him reluctant to use them. Originally with the superhero title Power Man, he is indeed very strong with impenetrable skin, with most taking note of the fact that he's bulletproof and can ragdoll any muscular normal human being without a sweat. Add that in with durability in the form of being able to survive explosions and things falling down on him and you've got yourself the makings of a superhero.

Going back to reluctance, though, we know that Luke is wary of standing out too much because of being an ex-con. Also, with the reveal of his wife's death in Jessica Jones, it can also be safe to assume that having such a spotlight on him may be dangerous to his family and loved ones.

The action starts, however, because Cornell Stokes, popular Harlem nightclub owner and villain, gets too active in Luke's backyard garnering his attention. Far from being the only villain, Mariah Dullard, a corrupt politician, is behind the scenes as well as Diamondback's right-hand man that oversees Cottonmouth's purview.

All-in-all, with Netflix already showing both Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and now with Luke Cage, we may be looking at the obvious conclusion: a build up to the Defenders. The Defenders are a local superhero group, much like the Avengers, but based in New York. Definitely something to look forward to.
