ITC To Look Into Samsung's Case Against Nvidia
Samsung's case against Nvidia, that alleged the graphics chip maker of patent infringements, will be looked after by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).
Samsung had alleged in the complaint with ITC that Nvidia and several other companies like Android console maker Ouya, had violated four of its patents related to graphics processing technology. Samsung also filed a suit in federal court against Nvidia and other companies.
The other companies that have allegedly infringed the patents are Elitegroup, Biostar Microtech, Jaton, EVGA, Fuhu, Mad Catz, Sparkle Computer, Zotac, Toradex and Wikipad.
The complaints by South Korean conglomerate follows a legal action initiated by Nvidia earlier this year. According to Nvidia, the complaints are just "typical legal ping pong."
The graphics chip maker also chided Samsung for involving several of its smaller partners.
"Samsung's cynical measure to blame our partners is unfair to these third parties and will create more negative fallout for the company. In the case of Velocity Micro, a small family business was named so that Samsung could attempt to get its case heard in the fast-moving local district court," Nvidia wrote in a blog post.
Nvidia had filed a patent infringement claim with the ITC in September, against Samsung and other companies over GPU technology. The company also filed a patent lawsuits in Delaware against Samsung.
According to the suit, Nvidia asked the commission "to block shipments of Samsung Galaxy mobile phones and tablets containing Qualcomm's Adreno, ARM's Mali, or Imagination's PowerVR graphics architectures."
However, a thing worth mentioning is that ITC's decision to investigated cases doesn't mean that the complaints have merits.
