Sword Art Online: Anime to Get Season 3, Live Action Series Coming Soon?

If you're a huge Sword Art online fans, then we have great news for you! Sword Art Online is going to get a Netflix live action series next year, according to The BitBag.The live action series will be brought to life by Skydance Television in partnership with Kadokawa Corp. Avatar script author Laeta Kalogridis will be creating the script.

According to Yibada, Sword Art Online author Reki Kawahara has given his blessing to the new adaptation. "I am excited and moved that 'Sword Art Online' will be adapted into a live action series by the highly respected Skydance Media.", he says. He also took the opportunity to thank everyone involved as well as fans all over the world who have "so generously and enthusiastically supported SAO."

According to GameNGuide, rumors say that the live action series will focus on American characters, while dropping hints on what happened to the Japanese characters as well. We're not sure how the fans will take that, but if this rumor's true, we're curious to see how they'd pull that off. The live action series is said to possibly start streaming on Netflix late next year.

Sword Art Online is also set to get a movie based on the anime franchise in 2017. The new film is titled as Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale. There has not been a lot of details released for the film, other than a general release date.

However, will the anime get a third season? As to that we're not sure. Rumor has it that the live action series will be the third season itself. Other reports say that the anime's third season will be released in 2018. For now, fans can only wait for more details and hope the live action series does the story credit.
