It has been four years since the vampiric Death Dealer Selene fought Lycans and Hybrids alike on the big screen. In a surprising move, Screen Gems unloaded their first, full trailer for the fifth entry in the "Underworld" series, "Blood Wars."

Directed by debuting helmer Anna Foerster, "Blood Wars" will mark the return of Kate Beckinsale after the franchise's previous outing, "Awakening." Both Charles Dance and Theo James are also set to reprise their roles as Thomas and David respectively, while newcomers Tobias Menzies, Lara Pulver, James Faulkner, Peter Andersson, Bradley James, Daisy Head, and Clementine Nicholson will be joining the aforementioned actors in the sequel.

The synopsis, released by Screen Gems, is as follows:

Underworld: Blood Wars follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.

In recollection, plans for a supposed reboot of the franchise were announced back in August 2014, with Cory Goodman at the helm to develop the script. Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi were tapped as producers for the project, which was titled previously as "Underworld: Next Generation." However, plans were scrapped, and the project progressed as a fifth entry in the series, rather than being a reboot. In lieu of this, Beckinsale, James, Menzies, Dance, and Pulver signed on successively.

Principal photography for the film began on October 19, 2015 in Prague, Czech Republic, and is set to take place over ten weeks. The film's crew included seasoned cinematographer Karl Walter Lindenlaub, production designer Ondrej Nekvasil, costume designer Bojana Nikitovic, and editor Peter Amundson.

"Underworld: Blood Wars" is set to premiere on January 6, 2017.
