NBA Trade Rumors: Nets and Kings in Talks for Deron Williams

The Brooklyn Nets and the Sacramento Kings are reportedly in trade talks involving point guard Deron Williams. However, sources stated that a deal is not imminent.

Williams, 30, averages 15.6 points, 6.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. He is currently out due to a strained calf injury.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski with Yahoo! Sports, the early talks include trading Darren Collison, Derrick Williams and Jason Thompson in exchange for Williams.

Wojnarowski wrote: "The Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings are discussing a deal centered on former All-Star guard Deron Williams, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The Nets have been shopping their high-priced star players, and the Kings have been probing the market for an impact point guard...The Nets' partnership with Williams has become increasingly fractured over the past two years, and the idea of a breakup has appeal for both sides, sources tell Yahoo."

Wojnarowski added that two factors could hold up the trade.

First, the Kings reportedly want the Nets to include center Mason Plumlee to the deal. With Brook Lopez injured, the Nets are not too keen on trading Plumlee. However, with Williams' huge salary and declining health, the Nets do not have much leverage.

Second, the Kings are hesitant to part ways with their point guard Collison, who is averaging 15.6 points with 6.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game. However, the Kings, who recently tried to trade for Rajon Rondo, are in the market for an impact point guard.

Williams and the Kings' interim coach, Tyrone Corbin has a history dating back to when the pair was with the Utah Jazz.

Williams is owed more than $43 million in his contract, which ends after the 2016-17 season.
