Blackberry Making a Self-Destructible Phone for Boeing
Fighter-jet maker Boeing has reportedly paired up with Blackberry to design a tamper-proof smartphone.
According to ZD Net, the device rumoured 'Boeing Black Phone' will run Android with Blackberry Enterprise Server 12 securing it. The phone's body does not have any user serviceable parts and the screws are sealed. While the phone is yet to be demonstrated, its security features include self- memory deletion if attempts are made to open it. The device also encrypts calls and the data on the device.
"We're pleased to announce that Boeing is collaborating with BlackBerry to provide a secure mobile solution for Android devices utilizing our BES 12 platform. That, by the way, is all they allow me to say," John Chen, BlackBerry CEO reportedly said according to Tech Times.
The phone's users can use two sim cards, one for government networks and the other for regular use, Christian Science Monitor reports.
Blackberry has seen huge losses in the last few years after Android and iPhone popularity soared, eating a lion's share of its customers. CSM reports that ever since taking over as CEO, Chen has tried to shore up the company's reputation with business and government users. Its two devices launched this year, the Passport and Classic, are indicative.
Ducking the trend however, Blackberry posted a surprise profit in Q3, Forbes reported. Accordingly, the company saw an adjusted net profit of $ 6 million compared to a loss of $ 11 million during the previous quarter.
