Uber Latest News: UberPool promises $2 credit if you’re late

Uber is about to make 'carpooling to work' a more attractive option. The app-based car service on Tuesday announced a new "arrive by" feature on UberPool, aimed at giving you peace of mind that you'll arrive at your destination on time. "We guarantee you'll arrive at your destination before the time quoted - or we'll give you $2 off your next UberPool trip," Uber said.

Here's how it works: Make sure you're running the latest version of the Uber app, then select UberPool and enter your pick-up and drop-off locations like you normally would. You'll see a price and the latest time you'll reach your destination, even if another rider joins your trip. If it looks good, press "Request UberPool" and you're all set. Uber in their statement wrote that because your app shows you the absolute latest time you'll reach your destination; you will often arrive well before the estimate shown. This is something beneficial if you are working or even say a student who makes use of carpooling.

Right now, the new "arrive by" guarantee is only live in Los Angeles, but the company plans to roll it out to additional markets "soon." Launched nearly two years ago, UberPool lets you share a ride with someone else nearby to save cash. Sharing a car could make your trip about 40 percent less expensive than an UberX ride. To date, drivers have logged more than 100 million UberPool trips around the world.

More than 100,000 people rely on the service every week. Uber claimed that getting more people in fewer cars is also a proven way to cut pollution and congestion in our cities. "In Los Angeles, for example, UberPool cut the number of miles driven by 7.9 million, and the amount of carbon dioxide by 1,400 metric tons in the first eight months of operation."
