NBA Rumors: Free Agent Evan Turner Comments About The ‘Future of Basketball’

A number of basketball pundits think that NBA is heading away from mid-range scoring. However, one mid-range shooter thinks the style may eventually come back as a basketball trend again. For unrestricted free agent and Boston Celtics wingman Even Turner, mid-range is the "future of basketball."

Mid-range scoring in NBA seems to be going out of fashion some observers would say especially with the rise of advanced game analytics. Of course, hold-outs remain with players who possess fine shooting skills coupled with the right mettle to make the crowd go frenzy with their 18-foot jumpers. Unfortunately, some analysts think the trend is going to another direction where mid-range scoring is increasingly becoming irrelevant. Not so fast though, said Turner via SLAM.

"The future is in the mid-range. The mid-range is where the money's at, man. I think the three-point shot opens up the court and everything like that, but MJ and all those great players made all of their money out of the mid-range...Anywhere within 15 feet is cash. I'll try to get better at threes, but that's my game."

Yahoo Sports said that while there is a credible weight in Turner's recent comment, mid-range is not a one-style-fits-all for all teams in the league since gameplay and hardcourt temperament vary. Additionally, leagues are full of experts talented enough to figure out how to go against mid-range talents. Basketball is an ever-evolving game where trends do not stay too long.

Bleacher Report also noted that while mid-range shots will still have a place in future NBA, three-point shot now owns the court with the ability to knock down mid-range shots. In recent years, open-style gameplay highlighting three-pointers have seen the current NBA powerhouses, the Cavs and the Warriors, leading the rest of the pack in the regular season and playoffs with high three-pointers per game.

As a free agent this offseason the Celtics wing is known for solid defense who can also contribute decent amount of offense. The 6'7" mid-range shooter posted an average of 10.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game in his professional career. He is rumored to sign in with New York Knicks per Sports Rageous report.
