Minnesota Timberwolves Trade Corey Brewer for Draft Picks
The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded Corey Brewer to the Houston Rockets in a three-team trade, several media outlets reported.
"Brewer had requested to go to a contender, and the Wolves had discussions with several teams over the past month, including the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers. The Wolves had given Brewer permission to talk with teams to set up a trade," ESPN.com wrote.
According to Sam Amick with USA Today Sports, the Timberwolves will receive Tony Daniels, a 2015 draft pick that the Rockets owned from the Sacramento Kings, a future second pick and cash considerations. The Rockets will receive Brewer as well as point guard Alexey Shved from the Philadelphia 76ers, who will receive the Rockets' 2015 second-round pick and Ronny Turiaf, who is currently injured, from the Timberwolves.
In order to make room for their two new players, the Rockets have released veteran Francisco Garcia. Brewer will add depth to a strong Rockets team led by James Harden and Trevor Ariza.
"Houston had been motivated to acquire Brewer especially for his ability to defend at the small forward position. He'll play behind starter Trevor Ariza," Adrian Wojnarowski with Yahoo! Sports wrote.
With the Timberwolves this season, Brewer, 28, averaged 10.5 points in 28.3 minutes. Career-wise, Brewer averages 10.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in about 25.8 minutes per game.
