As discussions of police training, policy, and the use of force dominant conversations around the United States, a New York City Police Department officer caught attacking a suspect that was already subdued by the police has been suspended.

CBS News reports that the NYPD did not name the plain clothes officer seen assaulting the subdued suspect, but did announce that the officer had been suspended.

The suspect who was attacked is a teenager named Denzel Funderburk. He and two other teens were stopped by police and arrested after the police received a call about an assault on a twenty year old man.

The victim was struck numerous times with a cane as the assailants yelled "murder gang," according to CBS News. The victim suffered a broken jaw was a result of the assault.

The entire incident was capture on the cell phone of a passer by.

The incident is sure to bring renewed scrutiny to the NYPD, which has been the subject of nationwide protests after a grand jury failed to indict officer Daniel Pantaleo in the choking death of Eric Garner.

Outrage over Garner's death is based in the fact that he was only selling loose cigarettes when the police stopped and ultimately killed him.  Garner's death was also captured on video, making it clear that he did not resist arrest and Pantaleo used excessive force.

The chokehold maneuver Pantaleo used on Garner is banned under NYPD practices. There were also at least four other officers on the scene to help control Garner, making it unnecessary for one officer to use such force.

Garner also pled for his life more  than ten times, with the camera capturing his last words of, "I can't breathe."
