Dance Moms Spoilers: Season 6 Star Kara Girard's Past Criminal Records Reexamined
Lifetime reality hit TV series 'Dance Moms' has become increasingly notorious for featuring stars having criminal records. Some have been either accused or convicted of fraud and theft. There are also those who have serious money problems. One of the most unforgettable parts of Season 5 was when guest star Tracey Reasons revealed Kira Girard, mother of ALDC dancer Kalani Hilliker, was previously arrested on credit card fraud charges.
As reported by Radar Online, the media outfit reportedly managed to secure documents proving that Kira Girard, previously known as Kira Salazar, went bankrupt and was subsequently arrested for theft. As per the records obtained, Girard was accused and arrested on four felony charges plus one attempted theft back in 2005 in Chandler, Arizona.
The court records also revealed that her business involved selling Plasma HDTVs on eCommerce giant, eBay. Her scheme entailed ripping off clients by asking them to send the payment in advance but failing to ship the ordered items.
She reportedly stole $15,525 from her clients from July to October 2005. Upon her arrest at her residence, law enforcers caught her red-handed using drugs with her boyfriend. She was charged accordingly as per accusations but argued that someone else was using her name to rip off others on eBay. Girard additionally reasoned out that did it because she, too, fell victim to a similar scheme in the past. She pleaded guilty to the charges and subsequently requested for probation.
Sharing Girard's predicament is the show runner herself, Abby Lee Miller, who heads ALDC who is currently facing a number of legal troubles. Miller was charged with 20 counts of fraud including deliberate concealment of bankruptcy assets, false bankruptcy declarations, and bankruptcy fraud. If she gets convicted, she's likely to spend 5 years in jail plus hefty fines at $5 million, Deadline reported.
There were also a number of Dance Moms stars who reportedly went broke and filed for bankruptcy including Ashley Allen, Sari Lopez and Melissa Ziegler. As per Movie News Guide, the parents of dance prodigy Maddie Ziegler declared bankruptcy in 2009. As the report goes, Melissa Ziegler and her husband Kurt had debts amounting to $1,214,284.15 plus $908,000 in mortgages, and $206,002 in credit card charges. Fortunately, they were able to settle the case back in 2010.
Ashley Allen was similarly in the same financial woes when she and her husband Aaron accumulated debts of $1,405,903.80 plus $1,131,668.00 in mortgage payments, and $158,334.00 for credit card charges. They were able to reach a settlement with their creditors in 2008.
It is pretty understandable how legal and financial troubles could play out in the reality TV series. The intensity of the onscreen drama is just as intense as the problems many of the stars are having at home. It can be safely said that Dance Moms is practically a way for many of the struggling moms to pay off their humungous debts.
