Boston Celtics Trade Rumors: Celtics are Shopping Rajon Rondo, Jeff Green
Rumors that the Boston Celtics are shopping their star player, Rajon Rondo have heated up. Sources are stating that the Dallas Mavericks are emerging as Rondo's number one suitor but other teams are interested as well.
According to Adrian Wojnaroski and Marc Spears with Yahoo! Sports, the Mavericks are willing to trade a first-round pick with limited lottery protection for Rondo. They write: "The Mavericks' interest has grown in the past several days, prompting the organization to begin further fact-finding on Rondo, sources said. The Mavericks are searching for ways to close the gap with the first-place Golden State Warriors, and are weighing a Rondo-Monta Ellis backcourt."
ESPN's Marc Stein noted, "Sources told ESPN.com that the Celtics and Mavericks have been discussing a swap that would furnish Boston with multiple draft picks -- including at least one future first-rounder -- as well as blossoming Mavericks center Brandan Wright and other players needed to make the salary-cap math work."
Multiple reports added that the Rockets, Kings, Knicks and Lakers have also been in talks to acquire Rondo.
Rondo, 28, will become a free agent at the end of the season. He is averaging 8.3 points with 10.8 assists and 7.5 rebounds.
Rondo, however, is not the only player that the Celtics are shopping. Yahoo! Sports also reported that the Celtics are interested in trading Jeff Green for a first round pick.
Wojnaroski and Spears write: "Boston has been consistently shopping forward Jeff Green, trying to acquire a package that includes a first-round draft pick, sources said."
Green, 28, is having one of his best seasons. He averages 19.6 points with a field goal percentage of .454. Green has one year left of his contract worth $9.4 million.
