Rumors are rife Microsoft may release a Mini version of its popular Surface tablet next year featuring Windows 10.

While the Redmond giant has not made an official announcement regarding a Surface Mini, its financial charts depicting revenue bumps of over $ 900 million this quarter from Surface 3 Pro sales alone, argue why a Mini version is on the cards. The word doing the round in the mobile tech community is Microsoft believes in launching the Mini sooner than later to catapult it to success riding on Surface Pro's good fortunes.

Modern Readers pointed out that a Mini has been in the offing ever since 2012 but has never come to be, thanks to Microsoft postponing it at the last minute. It is however clear that Mini is still on the agenda.

The company is tight-lipped about any plans or specifications. Some intelligent guesstimation would show that Windows 10 could debut on Mini in order to ensure its success, Design&Trend reports. Also, Surface Mini is likely to feature an 8-inch or 10-inch screen as its older cousin Surface Pro 3 is a 12-incher.

Surface and Windows enthusiasts for now will have to contend with an indefinite wait sans an official word. However given that Windows 10 may be released early next year or later during fall, there is some hope on the horizon. Still in the bug-testing, Windows 10 has been available to select users.

A counterview that has equally caught the tech community's fancy is that Microsoft would release a Mini version of Surface along with the next version Pro 4.
