Doom is back with the 2016 iteration of the id Software's classic franchise and give the FPS genre its original barbaric purity plus major updates that include ultra-fast-paced competitive mode and some modding action through Snapmap.

First-person shooter (FPS) genre has been the most dominant theme in the gaming industry for about a decade thanks largely to Doom's creators, a group of friends in Louisiana who decided to translate their male power fantasies of gore, guns, and braggadocio into a highly celebrated game with the chief aim of simply shooting your way out of each level and survive, the Guardian reported.

Over the years, FPS just simply deviated from the pure monotony of classical barbarism. Contemporary games tend to make players sneaky and engage in a tiring hide-and-seek-then-shoot environment with a tinge of moral complexities involved.

But the back-to-basics Doom 2016 will enable players to depend largely on their firepower and shooting skills to survive each large level. But behind the demonic butchery with all its nonsensical cocktail of violent mayhem lies an unapologetically simple narrative. It's all about marine whose uncomplicated objective is to shoot the crap out of demons with large guns (and a chainsaw)" as per Adam Rosenberg of Mashable. According to the report, a sneak preview at a game footage for this year's E3 will reportedly features many big guns plus a chainsaw for a masterful kill.

As per PC Mag review of the said game, here are the six features that gamers can expect from the 2016 iteration of the FPS original:

1. Back to Basics- Doom 3 was more like Resident Evil's survival horror roots with a totally different theme from the preceding titles of the titles. In the new Doom, it's all about killing as many monsters with each intricately designed levels with a little influence from contemporary games to suit modern audiences.

2. Classic Hidden Levels- As a tribute to the previous titles of the classic series, there are secret doors hidden in each level that lead players to locations lifted from Doom 1 and 2 with all the look and feel of the original design. This add-on is a homage and show players the extent of how the game has changed over the past two decades.

3. Fast Pace- Fast-paced gameplay was Doom's original mantra which means gamers would have to rely on pure instinct to survive from a relentless stream of monsters that will give players a break to breathe.

4. Modding action through Snapmap and Weapon Customization- For PC gamers, modding is an interesting feature thanks largely to Doom's Snapmap that enables users to create content, custom levels, and share mods with other players. In addition, players can customize their weapons according to their own style.

5. Multiplayer- Doom's online feature includes a skill-focused multiplayer plus modern mechanics and perks to suit a younger generation of gaming crowd.

6. Violence- Brutality is the name of the game in an exponential glorification of killing and tearing enemies apart. For players who can't stand the sheer brutality of this notoriously bloody game, it's better stay out of this one.

Doom 2016 is reboot of the original series that is undeniably crude, simple, straightforward but essentially refined and remastered with today's technology.
