Chicago Bulls Rumors: Team Lands No. 14 in the Draft Lottery

On Tuesday evening, the NBA draft lottery took place with Chicago Bulls nabbing the 14th overall pick in this year's draft scheduled on June 23. Sports journalist have been setting up mock drafts but there's still plenty of room for speculation about picks and trades before the actual draft sets in.

As reported by iSportsWeb, Chicago only had 0.5 chance of landing at the overall top pick but still managed to get the highest pick they could possibly get from the lottery. The question looming on everyone's mind is what the Bulls top brass plan to do with their 14th pick. Basketball pundits have observed that the franchise tends to pick the best player they could get regardless of need.

This mentality is strikingly in contrast with the standard practice among NBA teams which draft players according to the position they need in the team. For example, Chicago Bulls drafted power forward Bobby Portis for their No. 22 overall pick- a position they certainly have no need for given the existence of players like with Nikola Mirotic and Taj Gibson. However, the decision was a sensible one given Portis' valuable contribution following a series of injuries that plagued its big men.

So far, here is a partial list of Tuesday's draft lottery order as quoted directly from CSN Chicago showing Philadelphia 76ers bagging the first overall pick followed by Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics in the top 2 and 3 slots respectively:

1. Philadelphia 76ers

2. Los Angeles Lakers

3. Boston Celtics (via Brooklyn)

4. Phoenix Suns

5. Minnesota Timberwolves

6. New Orleans Pelicans

7. Denver Nuggets (via New York)

8. Sacramento Kings

9. Toronto Raptors (via Denver)

10. Milwaukee Bucks

11. Orlando Magic

12. Utah Jazz

13. Phoenix Suns (via Washington)

14. Chicago Bulls

Meanwhile, the Bulls will reportedly trade Derrick Rose if they get a better point guard in this June's NBA draft. As far as their drafting mentality goes, the Bulls have placed too much faith in Rose when they drafted him in their 2008 top pick.

Chicago Bulls entered one of their undeniably weak season performances which prevented them from getting into the playoffs. Furthermore, their roster has been plagued with too many injuries which kept the team from performing in their optimal level. With 42-40 record, the Bulls is currently ranked at No. 9 in the Eastern Conference standing. As the management rebuilds the Bulls with Butler in the center, injury-laden Rose might end up somewhere else should they get to sign in Kris Dunn in this year's draft pick, Sports Rageous reported.
