Miami Heat Rumors: Chris Bosh May Face the Worst Times in His Career
A dark cloud is looming over Miami Heat's future following their exit from round 2 playoffs after being pummeled by Toronto Raptors in the race for the Eastern Conference finals. The team's veteran center Chris Bosh may face the worst times in his All-Star career after a recurring blood clot condition may force the franchise to make him reconsider about medical retirement.
NBA insider reports suggest that the Heat may find itself in an extremely tight predicament in the offseason as they prepare to shake up the roster before the start of next regular season. There is strong likelihood that Bosh may never be medically cleared to play even if he attempts to go back to active gameplay next season.
"Obviously the Heat and their doctors don't think he can play. We know this because he didn't play [in the playoffs] ... If the Heat doctors do not believe he can play in the fall, the Heat are going to be in a difficult position because they may have to try to get Chris Bosh to consider medically retiring," wrote Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
Since the All-Star break this February, Bosh has missed every single game following reports of a recurring blood clot. A similar condition surfaced last year which already reached one of his lungs forcing him to a hospitalization. For the past few months, Bosh and his wife had turned to social media to campaign for his return but the Heat remained silent. During the playoffs, he was officially shut down from playing in a meeting brokered by the NBA Players' Association.
According to Sports Illustrated, Both Heat and Bosh would want to see him doing action on the hardcourt but the center's medical condition is putting the team in an uncertain situation regarding his future. Should he be relieved from the roster via medical retirement, Bosh would still be paid until February 9, 2017- one year after his last played game. He is currently locked in to a $75-million contract with the Miami Heat.
Meanwhile, Miami Heat exec Pat Riley recently announced that the team's offseason priorities is to exhaust all remaining options to get Bosh playing again on the court and retaining free agents like Dwayne Wade and Hassan Whiteside.
"It's going to have to be done in a way that we all feel good about. We will, as we've always said, will join him in trying to find a way to get him back on the court," Riley said as mentioned by the Bleacher Report.
