NBA Rumors: Spurs-Thunder Game 5 Marred By 2 Incorrect Non-Calls
The San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder are locked in a neck-to-neck series battle in the second round of the NBA playoffs. In Game 5, Oklahoma won 95-91 over San Antonio for a 3-2 lead. And according to NBA's Last Two Minute Report, the game was marred by two incorrect non-calls with the Spurs on the wrong end.
The recent admission based on the two-minute ref review came after the league identified five incorrect non-calls in Game 2's remaining 13.5 seconds which Oklahoma won by razor-thin 98-97 lead over San Antonio.
According to ESPN, the Last Two Minute Report is an integral part of NBA's attempt to increase transparency in the last two minutes of the game for tight match-ups within 5 points or less.
Here is a rundown of the two incorrect calls that occurred on Game 5 based on NBA's two-minute review as per Yahoo Sports:
1. The NBA officially acknowledged that Thunder center Steven Adams appeared to have extended his leg well within Spurs wingman Danny Green's way causing him to trip and eventually fall into Oklahoma forward Kevin Durant with only 54.7 seconds left. As a result, Durant was entitled to free throws which added up to Thunder's narrow-point lead.
2. Also, Spurs player Kawhi Leonard clearly tried to foul Thunder's Russell Westbrook as San Antonio trails behind Oklahoma by just one point with 8.7 seconds remaining but no call was blown.
For fans who are closely watching the Spurs-Thunder best-of-seven series, all the misguided whistles for both Game 2 and Game 5 are now seven in total- definitely not a good sign.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors have sent the Portland Trail Blazers packing after winning 125-121 on Wednesday as the team marched to the Western Conference Finals while waiting for the winner of the Spurs-Thunder playoff series, Sports Illustrated reported. Like in Game 4, MVP title holder showed no sign of letting up as he scored 7 points in the last 25 seconds of the game.
