Oracle vs Google Lawsuit News Update: Jury Selection Started
So the big fight of the internet is finally there. Stage set, and not the referee set. Err... jury. A jury of ten men and women have been selected for the second Oracle v. Googlecopyright trial which will be heard very soon. This trial is expected to continue for a month. If Oracle had to win, the damages could be not less than a nine-digit sum.
The jury includes an employment coordinator, a lawyer who works for local government, a former aerospace CFO, an HR professional, an electrician, a retiree, a homemaker, and a product manager for a local power company. The panel was selected after a few hours of questioning. Most of the jurors were unaware of the case which we really found it funny. I mean like jurors being unaware of their case that they'll take up in just a while? Laughable. All the jurors however were frequenting Google products but also admitted that the same wouldn't influence their decision. It was found out that several of them actually use phones running on Android.
This is the second time that Oracle have challenged Google for a court lawsuit. The first time a judge ruling had been overturned by a federal court. The initial ruling came out in the favor of Google stating that APIs couldn't be copyrighted after all. But the over-turned rule actually favored Oracle. This time, we have got to wait and watch about the outcome of the case. Out of all the jurors only a single soul had in fact have a decent amount of knowledge in computers since he was a network manager who held a computer science degree too. He was the only man familiar with the term "fair use" which Google are hoping for. "There is propaganda out there about this on the Internet, both ways," said a soul before dismissing the student. "Half of them don't know what they're talking about. If you were to look it up, it would be a travesty of justice."
