Frozen 2 Latest Update And Rumor: Moviemakers May Add an LGBT Twist in Elsa's Lovelife

Disney's animated 3D film 'Frozen' was a major box office hit. Some say the movie was pretty much progressive in a number of ways as it incorporates themes such as gender empowerment focusing on the strength of women. Now, an increasingly restive fans are demanding to give Elsa an LGBT makeover.

According to some members in the LGBT community, Elsa's own struggle with her powers as she goes through the process of acceptance has been interpreted by some as a metaphorical symbolism of her liberation- her coming out from the confines of tradition.

"I recently thought about this in relation to Disney's Frozen, a movie I have seen multiple times (I own practically all of the Olaf merch available). Many in the LGBT community view this movie as a metaphor for the experience of coming out and accepting who you are. Yet Elsa, the film's protagonist, will probably end up with a male prince or king in the upcoming Frozen sequel," Alexis Isabel Moncado, the 17-year-old Latina girl who campaigned for greater LGBT representation in the hit animation, quoted from Mary Sue.

Increasingly, the LGBT community has made the movie's hit soundtrack 'Let it Go' as its empowering de facto anthem. Now, a twitter campaign with the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend is already making waves in the social media in a bid to make LGBT representation in Disney movies a little more conspicuous, hopefully, giving the world its first-ever gay princess.

"There are more than just one kind of person. To see the same story over and over about a girl and her prince charming, it's repetitive, and it leaves so many people out and makes so many people feel alone," Moncado further said, further explaining why she started the hashtag as quoted by Washington Post.

For some analysts, 'Frozen' is already considered as one of Disney's most LGBT-friendly films that churned out of its studio. Jonathan Groff, for example, who played the heroine's love interest, is also Disney's first openly gay talent.

As per Independent, a number of shows in Disney-owned ABC has seemingly set some LGBT precedence with the show 'Once Upon a Time' by inserting gay characters in the plot.
