Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Chelsea In Pursuit of Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain
Great teams need great goal scorers and in the English Premier League, almost all the top teams are blessed with prolific goal scorers, as a result of which it is imperative to have excellent goal scorers in the team if a club aspires to win the title. In that light, Chelsea's incoming manager Antonio Conte has identified Gonzalo Higuain as the leader of the team's attack and according to The Daily Mail, a deal worth £42 million could be concluded this summer.
However, there are certain conditions that have to be met if the forward is to make the switch from Naples to London and one of them is that he would not play as the second choice to Chelsea's current first choice striker Diego Costa. Costa has been linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer but the club has reiterated that the player is very much a party of the plans, however the report in The Daily Mail states that the club might be willing to negotiate a deal for Costa if a suitable bid does come along for the player. Atletico Madrid is thought to be one of the club who is interested in Costa.
When Chelsea won the title back in 2015 under Jose Mourinho, they had Diego Costa scoring goals for them at a consistent basis and that was a big reason why they coasted through during the difficult winter months, when the team was not playing particularly well. Hence it is not a surprise that Conte is keen on a deal for Napoli's Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, who has set the Seria A alight with a total of 32 goals this season and the manager believes that he could be able to build an attack around him for the 2016-17 season. The fee of £42 million would not be a problem for Chelsea and although Higuain will not be able to play in the UEFA Champions League next season, he is willing to discount that since he is confident that the club will be in the tournament in the following seasons.
