Real Life Hoverboard, Inspired by ‘Back To The Future 2,’ Sets World Records
Marty McFly's hoverboard from "Back to the Future II" is a reality. Flyboard Air, a Franky Zapata invention wins not just admiration of the fans but also a Guinness World Record. According to reports, Franky Zapata launched his Flyboard Air hoverboard in a promotional video which many fans thought was a "Back to the Future II" kind of stunt. However, what these fans didn't know was that Zapata had been testing his functional hoverboard for distance record.
After seeing him riding his Flyboard Air, videos of Zapata, 37, went viral online. While some doubted the authenticity of the video, some even called it a gimmick. His company, Zapata Racing, has already created many water-propelled devices which also included the Flyboard. For the Flyboard Air, Zapata used grouped turbo jets fitted underneath the board. This is connected to a kerosene pack strapped to Zapata's back and a thrust controller in his hands. Even though it is equipped by the turbojets, thankfully it is not as loud as one would think it to be. According to the company claims, the device can attain a height of 10,000 feet with a speed of 150 kilometers per hour.
As many as 200 people came to see Zapata after he completed his record-setting ride at Sausset-les-Pins, a small city located near Marseille. He lifted off from the platform and reached a height of 100 feet above water and was trailed by boats and jet skis during his flight.
After the flight, Zapata said in an interview that he was very nervous about today's launch but his fears dissipated as he was in the air. He explains, "It's an amazing sensation, it's really peaceful," he said. "I open my arms because it helps me control my movements, but when you open your hands and you feel the wind go through your hand and you have nothing under your feet - it's hard to describe, really. You have to experience this moment in your life."
