NBA Rumors: Stephen Curry Hopeful To Make a Comeback In Golden State Warriors
Reigning MVP Stephen Curry has gone back to court for light shooting practice last Monday to get his sprained right knee back to shape, and hopefully, just in time before the second round of playoff series is over.
Despite Coach Steve Kerr's insistence to keep him from playing as long as necessary, the three-point scoring machine expressed hope to return to the court for Warrior's Game 2 in the Western Conference semifinals.
Already, Coach Steve Kerr already said that Curry won't be around to play for Game 2 as Golden State continues to cruise for 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series without their most prized athlete.
"I'll just say he's doubtful just so we give everybody something to chew on," Kerr joked as quoted by Salt Lake Tribune. "He's not playing tomorrow, but he's doubtful."
While Curry is still trying to recuperate from sprained MCL, Warriors felt a cloud of uncertainty hovering above their heads. But after some games, they managed to prove how good they were with a series of blowout victories to show that they could do as much as damage to other teams even with Curry's temporary absence.
Some analysts think that the Golden State pulled off a string of victories because of their fear of being deprived of the chance to defend their title in the finals by getting beaten in the semis while Curry is out.
"The Warriors are locked in all the way to locking down to make sure the Trail Blazers won't steal a victory while Curry is being relegated to cheering from the bench," wrote Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com.
Even their opponents think highly of the Warriors' ability to step up their game as a team without being too dependent on Curry although the league's MVP could have given the Warriors more boost in crushing other title contenders in the race leading to the championship.
"They're a great team without Steph. They're a historically great team with him. They have a style of play. They have an identity. Everybody understands their roles. They do what they do well. They're an exceptional team with Steph and what he can bring to the table, but I think the last six quarters showed how good they are without him as well," said Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts said as quoted by ESPN.
