iPhone 7 News, Release Date Rumors and Updates: 'Future All Glass' Phone Teased
Apple is slated to introduce its new flagship, the iPhone 7, in the second half of the year in order to secure it stranglehold on the increasingly competitive smartphone market. Now, latest roundups from tech's rumor mills suggest that future iPhones probably starting next year might feature an entirely glass-backed case as opposed to current aluminum cover- a trend Apple itself started.
According to iDigital Times, the Cupertino-based technology firm recently struck a deal with Samsung to supply 100 million OLED display units. The report seems to coincide with the predictions of reputable KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that the Apple's next generation of iPhones is likely to revert to an earlier all-glass design to deliberately set itself apart from aluminum trend among today's high-end smartphones. Going 'all glass' also means having more freedom to pursue new product design.
"If iPhone 7 still uses an aluminum casing in 2016, it will be the fifth year in a row that iPhone has done so, which means there is no longer a feeling of freshness to appeal to consumers," told Kuo as mentioned in a report by MacRumors.
The renowned tech analyst further noted, "Also, a lot of Apple's (US) competitors are also adopting aluminum casings, which means iPhone no longer has a clear edge due to a lack of differentiation. On expectations that iPhone shipments will decline in 2016, we believe Apple will be more strongly motivated to use non-aluminum casings in 2017 in a bid to enhance the competitiveness of iPhone by offering an all-new form-factor design."
Meanwhile, several reports suggest that Apple will release the iPhone 7 earlier than expected because of the current model's sluggish sales. Fans and critics are expecting the company to reveal the new device at the upcoming event in September. Apple Insider reported that the tech giant is experiencing slow market sales from iPhone 6 and iPhone SE, which made the company decide to release the new iPhone 7 before this year ends.
Meanwhile, new reports seem to indicate a possible earlier release of the highly anticipated iPhone 7 amid disappointing sales report of the current flagship. Fans and critics expect the unveiling of the product sometime around fall this year according to Apple Insider.
