Real Madrid Star Being Chased by Arsenal

Arsenal have been in the hunt for a world class striker ever since Robin van Persie left for Manchester United back in the summer of 2012 and for four years the club has tried a range of strikers, however manager Arsene Wenger has not been able to replace the bucket load of goals that the Dutchman used to score. After pursuing Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez and Karim Benzema over a period of the last eight transfer windows, the Frenchman seems to have gone back for Real Madrid striker Benzema yet again this summer. According to reports published by The Daily Mail, Arsenal has made Benzema a priority this summer considering the fact that the Real Madrid striker might find himself marginalised at the Santioago Bernabau if the club bring in a new striker in the summer.

Real Madrid is currently looking for a deal for either Borussia Dortmund's striker Pierre Aubameyang or Bayern Munich's Polish striker Robert Lewandowski for a fee of around £70 million. If that happens then Benzema would no longer be the first choice striker and that does open up an opportunity for Benzema to join the club that had enquired about the move last summer. Last summer, it was rumoured that a fee of £60 million could have been enough to bring Benzema to the Emirates but a deal could not be finalised in the end and the French striker stayed back at Real Madrid after penning a new deal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been a long time admirer of the striker and had tried to sign him before he joined Real Madrid but could not compete with the Spanish club in terms of transfer fee. On the other hand, Arsenal is thought to be close to agreeing a deal with German club Borussia Monchengladback for their Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka at some poin in the summer transfer window.  The German club are looking for a fee of £32 million for their captain but Arsenal believe a fee of around £24 million woudl be enough.
