Fox Journalist Faces Up To Ten Years in Jail for Domestic Violence
A journalist with Fox's Spanish-language TV station in Los Angeles has been charged with two felony counts of injuring a spouse and if convicted will face up to ten years in prison.
Carlos Zapata, 51, worked as a reporter at MundoFox Channel 22.
He allegedly threw a flower pot at his wife on 3 December. According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said the pot hit Luisiana Gonzalez with "full force" and she sustained serious injuries, Daily Mail reports.
The police said that Zapata was arrested at 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday at the Encore Apartments complex in the Sherman Oaks neighbourhoods of Los Angeles.
Gozalez told the police said that her husband had attacked her a month ago as well, during an argument. Following the complaint, the district attorney framed two felony charges against the journalist.
Currently, he is out on $50,000 bail, National Headlines reports. He is slated to appear before the Los Angeles County Superior Court on 24 December. If he is convicted, he might face a maximum of ten years in jail.
Channel 22 pulled his biography from its website to avoid controversy. However, according to his biography, Zapata is an award-winning journalist who has experience in reporting in the United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
MundoFox is an American Spanish language broadcast television network. It is operated by the Fox International Channels and Colombian private broadcaster RCN Television SA. Both the companies own 50 percent of the network.
The network was officially launched August 13, 2012 and its headquarters is located in Los Angeles, California. During the announcement of its launch in January 2012, president and CEO of Fox International Channels Hernán López said that the network will cater to "an increasing demand for quality Spanish-language content in the United States from both viewers and advertisers."
