UK Woman "Can't Quit" Eating Toilet Paper
A young mother in the United Kingdom has developed a weird craving - to eat toilet paper.
Jade Sylvester, 25, has five kids and developed this unusual craving during the second month of her pregnancy when she was expecting her youngest son Jaxon.
Jade, who lives in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, said: "Two months into the pregnancy, I started craving toilet roll. I still don't know why. I like the feeling of the texture in my mouth, rather than the taste. I like the dryness. My family tell me it isn't very good for me - but I can't help it," Mirror reports.
She started eating little by little and now can eat as much as one whole roll of toilet paper each day.
Jade said that she is just not able to quit the habit, but she controls herself till her next nature's call. "Today I try and hold off going to the bathroom because I know if I go I will eat the paper. I usually eat around eight pieces per visit -- sometimes I go to the bathroom just to get some toilet roll. It does fill me up quite a bit. At first I used to eat a couple of squares at a time, but I keep eating more and more," Huffington Post reports.
Even though she likes eating it, she worries that in the long run she might face some health issues. She fears that she might have developed Pica, a condition in which a pregnant woman craves for non-food items like cornstarch, clay, baking powder, dirt or ice.
According to a study published in the Journal of American Dietetic Association Pica might be related to iron-deficiency in pregnant women.
