New York Knicks Rumors: Tension Growing between Anthony and Hardaway
The New York Knicks have had a dismal start to their season so far. With a record of 4-19, which is the worst start ever in the franchise's history, tension is starting to build between the players.
According to ESPN, Carmelo Anthony threatened to beat up fellow teammate Tim Hardaway Jr. after Hardaway screamed, "Get the rebound!" during last week's game against the Brooklyn Nets. Sources reported that Anthony thought that Hardaway was speaking directly to him. During his confrontation with Hardaway, Anthony reportedly used expletives and asked Hardaway who he thought he was speaking to.
"Nobody's taken a swing at anybody, but there's a lot of arguing and cursing each other out after games," a source revealed.
Although a fight did not take place, the rift between the two players is just another reminder of how poorly the Knicks have worked together this season. Sources have added that many players, including Hardaway, have not been too happy with Anthony's playing style. They are reportedly upset that Anthony takes too many shots, does not pass the ball, and is not focused on playing consistently good defense.
If the Knicks want to start winning, they will have to find a way to get the players to work better with one another. James Herbert with CBSSports.com wrote:
"It's obviously a problem if Anthony and Hardaway are indeed at odds. The Knicks do not have lots of young players with potential, but Hardaway is in that category. Ideally, they'd keep him around and try to develop his game. If that's going to happen, I'd assume they'd like him on the same page as their franchise player. This sounds like the opposite of that."
So far, the only thing the team can agree on is their dislike for the triangle offense, which they reportedly think is too predictable. Players are also not happy with the team's demanding workouts.
Team president, Phil Jackson has acknowledged these complaints, stating that "There's some resistance to discipline and order and culture change and things like that."
The Knicks will take on the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday.
