Manchester United Manager Louis Van Gaal Rules out Zlatan Transfer
Paris St. Gemain's Swedish super star Zlatan Ibrahimovic's contract situation at the Ligue 1 club has given rise to a lot of speculation regarding his future and has been linked with a free transfer to Manchest United in the summer. However, United manager Louis Van Gaal has completely quashed those links by stating categorically that the Red Devils would not be going for the striker due to his advanced age. Speaking to the media ahead of the weekend's game, Van Gaal pointed out that he wants the team to be kept young and hence he does not fancy brining the 34 year old Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United.
'We need to improve our selection [squad], because when I took over we had six or seven players above 33 years old. But now we have a much younger team and still we need a much younger selection because we need creative players in attack and also fast players.I like [our] own youth players more because they already know the culture in Manchester United, and that is also the philosophy for example of Ajax or Barcelona and also Bayern Munich.' When he was asked about the possibility of signing Ibrahimovic by one of the scribes present at the press conference, he replied, 'He [Ibrahimovic] is already 34 and I just spoke about the age [of the players].'
Manchester United have been struggling for goals for a while and the 2015-16 season has seen the club clock their worst goal scoring record in a quarter of a century. As a result, the club are pursuing a lot of options in the striking position and following Wayne Rooney's decline as a striker, it is expected that United would be placing bids for some of the best strikers in Europe. Ibrahimovic was linked with a move for that reason but it seems that the club is eyeing a long term solution to the problem. Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur, who has been in sublime form for two seasons sicne making his senior debut, is one of the players that United is interested in.
