Sam Hinkie, the beleaguered Philadelphia 76ers general manager, has long been a staple of swirling rumors and ridicule for the way he oversaw the franchise's basketball operations. Three years under his stewardship, the team has increasingly become the league's crowned laughing stock after a series of mishaps including unprofitable draft picks and a string of embarrassing losses.

Philadelphia's present sorry state of affairs is largely linked to his executive performance. With problems piling up under his watch, Hinkie reportedly resigned from his position and expected to be replaced by Bryan Colangelo, the son of the highly regarded chairman of the franchise, Jerry Colangelo.

After news of Hinkie's departure broke out, 76sers managing general partner Josh Harris confirmed the former exec's resignation in an official statement.

"While we are disappointed in Sam's decision, we would like to sincerely thank him for his contributions over the past three seasons. There is no question that Sam's work has put us in a very strong position to take advantage of numerous opportunities for an exciting future," Harris stated as quoted by Christian Post.

According to scooped roundups from insider sources, Hinkie felt to have been sidelined with the advent of the younger Colangelo who has been negotiating to join the team's front office. With the two Colangelos calling the shots, Hinkie's role would simply be more symbolic than functional.

While the embattled former GM tried to bid his farewell without inviting too much controversy, his 13-page resignation letter seemed to have been leaked to the sports media causing him to feel very unhappy about the situation.

"Hinkie was mortified to see his words in the public arena, never expecting that a private correspondence to his superiors would become public and turn into something of a mocked manifesto," NBA sports writer Adrian Wojnarowski mentioned in his Yahoo Sports update.

Meanwhile as reported by the Inquistr, the soon-to-be-anointed GM Bryan Colangelo faces a huge task of altering Philadelphia's losing environment after suffering massive string of 195 losses in the past three seasons.
