Scarlett Johansson News: Avengers Actress Hits At Planned Parenthood And Wage Gap
Scarlett Johansson shared her thoughts about planned parenthood and wage gap, two relevant issues that haunt the female world when she posed for the May issue of the Cosmopolitan magazine.
During the interview, the 31-year old actress mentioned more relevant issues like terrorism, global warming that need more budget than planned parenthood.
"...We should definitely cut the budget for Planned Parenthood. Let's take away the availability of women's health initiatives!'... It's nuts. We're talking about preventing cervical and breast cancers."
The actress further mentioned the risks that women have to undergo when their right to choose is stifled.
"Growing up, I used [PP's] services. All my girlfriends did-not just for birth control but for Pap smears and breast exams. You read about the rise of back-alley abortions, women having to mutilate themselves and teenagers having to seek help in unsafe conditions, and for what?! We're moving backward when we're supposed to be moving forward," she said.
She also talked about gender wage gap, in issue that Jennifer Lawrence, Lena Dunham and Meryl Streep fervently campaigned for in the Hollywood setting as they noticed that actresses get fewer and fewer roles when they grow older and thus earn lesser than their male counterpart.
"There's something icky about me having that conversation unless it applies to a greater whole... I am very fortunate, I make a really good living, and I'm proud to be an actress who's making as much as many of my male peers at this stage..." she said.
Although the actress is reportedly receiving one of the highest paychecks in Hollywood, this did not stop her from relating to issues of an average female earner saying that wage gap is 'a part of a larger conversation about feminism in general.'
Meanwhile, the Captain America: Civil War star hinted that, like any other girl, she also underwent a phase in her life when she was chasing an ex who is so 'attractively unavailable' that staying in the relationship led her to her 'breaking point' and 'rock bottom.'
"'I've lost myself. Why am I standing outside this bar at 1:30 in the morning texting while my friends are inside? Or taking a taxi to see him at some ungodly hour? This isn't me.' That is the moment you've gotta cut it off. Otherwise, it will keep coming back, suck your blood."
Scarlett Johansson had her second marriage with French journalist Romain Dauriac in 2014 also. She was previously married to Ryan Reynolds and had dated Sean Penn briefly after her first divorce.
