NFL News and Rumors: NY Jets Muhammad Wilkerson To Be Traded To Philadelphia Eagles
NFL news and rumors have been swirling around to whom the NY Jets will trade Muhammad Wilkerson. Rumors were spreading that the defensive end player will be traded to the Chicago Bears, but now reports say that there is a high chance that the 26-year-old will be moving to the Philadelphia Eagles.
At first, the main news story that was going around was that the Bears might make the trade for Wilkerson.
Windy City Gridiron previously reported, "If the Bears were to offer the #11 overall pick in the 2016 Draft, the Jets would readily accept, but I would imagine the Bears would want to negotiate a long term contract before any trade is finalized."
Now ESPN is also stating that it's possible Wilkerson could land a spot on the Eagles. One reason, news reporter, Phil Sheridan, states is because Wilkerson's relationship with the Pennsylvania city.
"Wilkerson went to Temple, so he's a local kid. Admittedly not the main reason, but it could make Philadelphia more attractive to Wilkerson," he said. "New defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz loves pressuring quarterbacks without blitzing. The Eagles aren't exactly overstocked with defensive ends at the moment. I don't think Wilkerson to the Eagles is likely, but it's possible."
Location is not the primary reason as Sheridan sais but, like Inquisitor states, there's a pretty good reason as to why it would be beneficial for the player and the team.
The site says, "Location might not be important to every player in the NFL, but it could make the Eagles seem more appealing of a home for Wilkerson. When players are comfortable, they might play better on the field."
Though the Jets' defensive end is said to have pretty good stats, including his age, Peter King of Sports Illustrated reports, because of his hefty contract of $50 million, the Jets would like to trade off the player.
NFL sports analysts also have suggested that Wilkerson appears a likely candidate for the Oakland Raiders.
