CIA accidentally leaves explosive on Loudoun school bus after Training Exercises
A school bus in northern Virginia had been carrying students with some explosive materials hidden in its engine compartment for at least two days.
Later the other the CIA used the explosives that fell out of the container for training purposes last week. After which CIA stated that"During the exercise, explosive training material was inadvertently left by the CIA K-9 unit in one of the buses used in the exercise." But they later clarified that the explosives were "incredibly stable" and "benign" and wouldn't cause any kind of danger. However the explosives were discovered during a routine maintenance check on Wednesday. Moreover it is to be noted that the explosives had been unnoticed for a week from March 24.
Before the explosives were found the school bus was used for eight runs on Monday and Tuesday, said the Briar Woods High School. It had initially given space for the CIA to conduct its training in the spring break.
The school bus had carried 26 students who attended Buffalo Trail Elementary School, Pinebrook Elementary School and Rock Ridge High School. Later after the incident CIA clarified that it was part of exercises. The container with explosive was intended to perceive how sniffer dogs would succeed in finding it.
After its discovery, CIA was called back to retrieve the material. However both Local authorities and Federal agencies did not investigate on the details of explosives involved. However Loudoun County officials gave a clarification by stating that "The exact nature of the training material used in this exercise is not being released at the request of the CIA so as not to compromise its training techniques." after which Wayde Byard , Loudoun schools spokesman said that the explosive a "putty-type" material and it was designed for use on the battlefield but it required a special detonator for activating the bomb. But even the nature of Putty or plastic explosives is used in demolition works because they are easily shaped and suits the purpose of demolition.
