Disturbed Perform 'The Sound of Silence' By Simon & Garfunkel On Conan
Fans are electrified by the Disturbed coverage of Simon & Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence". It was not what was expected from the band, but it turned out to be a "pretty amazing" performance, was the popular verdict.
On Monday night (March 28), the band decided to take a brief halt from their tour with Nonpoint and took to singing the song on a late night talk show, Conan.
With "Sound of Silence" being among the most well-loved Simon & Garfunkel songs on their list, the Disturbed version is not what it is understood to be with "Down With the Sickness" and "Land of Confusion." Yet, the Disturbed rendition of the song is haunting.
The critics are in epiphanies over the music. With a 15-piece orchestra, the band lines up in the background, while David Draiman sings the powerful vocal number. It is a terrific performance.
"The Sound of Silence" builds to a climax with the bridge as Draiman gives the biggest nods to Disturbed's sound with a bit of a grittier vocal inflection, but it is all swept away with the gorgeous ending of the track," exclaims a critic.
Draiman comes right down to reach the very bottom of his vocal repertoire and then climbs higher gradually, going up the scale along with the track.
The singer talked about the cover: "It's one of those songs that is so huge and so classic that many would argue that it is untouchable. I was very intrigued and very excited about it, but also, it was very daunting and I had a bit of hesitation."
The "Sound of Silence" cover is featured on the Immortalized album which was released in August of 2015.
Currently, the band will end their present tour on April 10. However, they will also enjoy a number of festival stops before they go back to co-heading the tour with Rob Zombie, beginning May 3.
