Hackers Target Sony PlayStation Online Store, Services Restored After Hack
An online group of hackers has targeted the Sony's PlayStation Network making it inaccessible globally for more than two hours. Users of the service who visited the PlayStation store were greeted by a message that said "Page Not Found! It's not you. It's the Internet's fault."
Sony Computer Entertainment acknowledged that the PlayStation Network was mostly down from 8.52am to 11.18am Tokyo time.
The company added that the problem has been fixed globally while it continues to investigate the cause of it.
A group calling itself the 'Lizard Squad' has claimed the responsibility of the attack by posting a tweet.
'PSN Login #offline #LizardSquad' the tweet from @LizardPatrol read.
The same group had tweeted "Xbox Live #offline" when users faced trouble signing on to Microsoft's Xbox last week.
This hacking incident comes days after Sony celebrated the 20th anniversary of its PlayStation game console by launching a limited-edition original-grey PS4.
The Sony PlayStation Network was also hacked in 2011, compromising information of more than 100m users.
For Sony, this has been a terrible month as it has been targeted twice in less than two months. Last month, the Sony Pictures Entertainment division was compromised, leaking private information of Hollywood stars and Sony employees.
"Microsoft will receive a wonderful Christmas present from us," Lizard Squad tweeted on Dec. 1, hinting more chaos is on the way.
