Murderer John Modie Escaped from Prison, Police on Hunting
An inmate who was serving in jail for killing a woman has escaped from the prison on Monday.
John Modie , 58 years old, escaped on Sunday night at the Hocking Unit of the Southeastern Correctional Complex in Nelsonville, according to state prison officials .
"All available resources are being utilized to apprehend John Modie," the department said.
K9’s, helicopters, cruisers and cops on foot are hunting to recapture John.
"It just doesn't happen. Nelsonville is a safe community for the most part. Like, this never happens,” neighbor Luke Hall said.
Modie was serving 18 years to life for convictions on murder, robbery and escape charges. He was sentenced in Cuyahoga County in 2003 and has gray hair and mustache and was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, gray sweatshirt
A sheriff has issued a bulletin saying Modie might be in a gold Jeep Grand Cherokee with two women.
After knowing of Modie’s escape, Hocking College closed its campus. Classes will resume and campus will open Tuesday.
