“The Catch” Recap and Review: Premiers, Promises Interesting Drama Ahead
Shondaland's latest production "The Catch" is on air, taking over "How to Get Away with Murder" in the 10 p.m. slot and if the first episode is anything to go by, it can be said with certainty that the show has got the spark to keep going.
The pilot episode opens up with a sequence at a happening art gallery where Alice Vaughan is introduced (played by Mireille Enos) to the audience as the smart and spunky private investigator who pins down a suave burglar, trying to sneak away with a painting.
And then the story unfolds at Alice's office where she is shown along with her BFF and business partner Val, who is trying to convince Alice to try out wedding cakes and it is revealed that our spunky investigator is getting married.
Shift to Alice's operation where the team is trying to catch a conman who has been sending intriguing emails to her, asking "Are you ready to play". They scour through the crowd, but the fraudster manages to escape.
A sad Alice comes home bemoaning the failed mission to her fiancé Christopher Hall (played by Peter Krause), who is taking a shower in the background and when he emerges, the viewers get the shock. He is the same fraudster, our investigator is after. She visits him next day in his office and gives him a check of $1.4 million to buy an expensive house and then comes another twist. His boss has her eyes on him.
Cut to some steamy sequence between Alice and Chris even as the latter has planned to ghost her. A change of heart follows later in the morning as he asks her to elope, to which she agrees but only after accomplishing her mission.
Chris bids goodbye, leaving the investigator confused as she discusses the elopement with her team and after the much-needed prompting, decides to give it a shot. She drives back home, but her lover has already flown away.
