Episode 14 of the fifth season of Scandal introduces a powerful and tough talking presidential candidate into the limelight.

Hollis Doyle seems to be a man of his own interest. He takes a turn into the political arena, which means that there are three Republicans and a Democrat fighting it out for the presidential candidate. The entry of Doyle into the political picture was based on the premise that he would channelize his wealth to the political campaigns of either Mellie or Susan depending upon the fulfillment of his interests. However, after meeting both of them an interest of competing the elections was aroused and therefore, stealing the campaign ideas of Mellie.

On the other hand, Abby was of the view that Cyrus was running the campaign for Vargas which would mean that he is going behind the presidential race. However, Cyrus declines to recognize Vargas but when pressed by Abby citing real time examples of their phone conversations and photographic evidences, Cyrus changed his statement and claimed that Vargas convinced him to run his campaign and requests Abby not to disclose this to Fitz.

Abby agrees on his face but then approaches Olivia and seeks for Cyrus' job. On showing unprecedented behavior, Olivia warns her that she would lose the white hat if she tries to opt for Cyrus' job and seeks her to be a better person. Abby, however, had different plans and she out rightly goes to Fitz and informs him that Cyrus is running the political campaign for Vargas. Fitz was contemplating on the consequences which he could face on firing Cyrus, when Abby re-affirmed the fact that she is the best and the most apt replacement for Cyrus, to which Fitz readily agrees.

Olivia, on the other hand, takes her spying on Jake on another level by listening to his connections with Vanessa. The cold war between the presidential candidates is well illustrated in this episode of Scandal.
