14 Pound Baby Girl Born in Colorado But 15 lb Boy Holds US Record
A woman in southern Colorado has given birth to a 13 pound 13 ounce baby girl, Monday.
The baby named Mia Yasmin Garcia was born by cesarean section and had to be admitted in a hospital in Denver because of low glucose and breathing problems, but according to her father, she was recovering well and will be taken home soon
Francisco Garcia, the baby girl's father, said that the hospital staff was amazed by the baby's size."They were like, 'Whoa!' They opened their eyes like they've never seen a baby like that," he said, reports the Associated Press.
The couple already have four other daughters and said they were done and do not plan on other children.
Recently, in New Zealand a baby boy was born with a birthweight of 15 pounds, also by cesarean section.
Babies born above 4 kg or 8 pounds weight are considered overweight. Averagely babies born between 2.5 ( 5 pounds)and 4 kg are considered normal weight
Andrew Jacob Cervantez of California , born in January this year, holds the official record of the heaviest baby in the United States. He weighed 15 lbs. 2 oz, and was 24 inches long at birth, reports the Christian Post.
Other two 15-pound babies were born in 2012 and 2013 in China and England, respectively. The world record of giving birth to the heaviest baby belongs to Ann Bates, a Canadian mother, who had a 23-pound, 12-ounce infant in 1879.
