Singer Natalie Cole has died at the age of 65, her publicist, Maureen O'Connor confirmed.

Cole died at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles due to complications from health issues on Thursday evening. The singer, who was the daughter of the legendary Nat King Cole, had dealt with a lot of ongoing health problems.

Cole's family released this statement:

"Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived ... with dignity, strength and honor. Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain UNFORGETTABLE in our hearts forever."

Although Cole always had music in her life, becoming a singer was not her initial career goal. In fact, Cole was a pre-med student while she was attending the University of Massachusetts. After she continued to sing on the side, her singing career starting to bloom with and without the help of her dad's famous name. However, after the world realized that she was gifted with singing abilities, her career took off.

Cole was mostly known for her album, "Unforgettable: With Love," which won multiple Grammys in 1991. The album sold more than six million copies within the United States. Some of Cole's other hits were "Our Love" and "This Will Be."

Throughout her career, she also faced several health scares, but that never stopped her from singing.

She had said after undergoing a kidney transplant in 2009, "I'm committed to working. I'm a fighter, not a chump. The timing is intense. The album is special to me, and here I am sick. But you know the saying: These are the best of times and the worst of times. So we'll barrel through."
