Tinder Comes To NHS Rescue For Organ Donation
Dating app Tinder is now helping NHS to get more youngsters to sign up for organ donation in the face of rising number of people waitlisted as potential organ recipients.
Fox News reports that users will be being given the option to sign up when they swipe right on profiles of Olympic gold medalist Jade Jones, actress Gemma Oaten and actor Jamie Lang. They will receive a message that reads 'if only it was that easy for those in need of a life-saving organ to find a match.' Users will then be presented with the option to register as an organ donor.
According to BBC, nearly 7,000 people waitlisted for organs even as 6,000 people died waiting for organs in UK during the last decade. The number of people donating organs after death has decreased in the UK, the report claims.
"While a third of the UK population has registered their intention to donate on the NHS Organ Donor Register, millions more support donation but haven't taken the final step to sign up,' Sally Johnson, director of organ donation and transplantation at NHS Blood and Transplant said according to Metro.
Tinder helps users find date matches by comparing profiles. The collaboration with NHS is also letting users support organ donation.
